We Feel Responsible...

Servis believes that Corporate Social Responsibility is more than taking up initiatives: it is about solving problems that will improve lives in our community.

Servis has been a regular contributor to community welfare, charities, and causes.

  • Free shoes -- these are routinely provided to foundations, needy individuals, sporting clubs, and underprivileged areas and neighborhoods.

  • Sponsorships -- financial support is provided to various social and welfare organizations and societies nationwide.

  • Donations -- primarily for deserving institutions, charitable organizations, individuals, and causes.

  • Emergencies and Disasters -- taking a lead in addressing these as they emerge. Support has been provided to earthquake victims and IDPs in recent past.

  • Sports -- being a leader in sports category with our brand Cheetah regular support is provided to various sports - from cricket to swimming, tennis, and rugby. Primary recipients in this domain are colleges, universities, and sports clubs and associations.

Response to IDPs Challenge

Servis was one of the first players in the corporate sector to respond to the IDPs challenge. We made a commitment to support 1,000 individuals throughout the course of their displacement.

Following steps were taken to lend a helping hand to the IDPs:

Shelter – three schools were identified in Gujjar Garhi, which is 3 km from Mardan. These schools were housing 1050 displaced individuals. Our schools were differentiated from the other camps because of its closed vicinity, facility of cooked meals and availability of electricity. Almost 40 people were assigned in one classroom. A mosque was set up on the premises and Quran classes were arranged for young children.

Provision of ‘Cooked Food’ – executive committee decided in the beginning for Servis to take ownership of cooked food for the displaced. Food was centrally cooked on site by Servis caterers in the premises of school 1 and then distributed to school 2 and 3. A tandoor was also set-up to facilitate fresh bread for IDP’s. A committee was responsible for food rationing and distribution.

Other Facilities – water pumps were put in place to fulfill their drinking needs and electric water coolers were made available. Other than cooked meals, non-food items were also handed out. These included clothing, toiletries, mattresses, bedding, sporting items, wooden clutches, health care products, medicines etc. The services of a doctor were also made available and a pharmacy was set.

Launch of CSR program: “Share Happiness”

In July 2009, Servis formally launched its CSR program in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center. The program is based on the idea that one can make a difference and helps in binding together the employees, the customers, and the community.

According to this program:
  • A customer buying a shoe from a Servis store is encouraged to make a contribution to community welfare. Since, prices of most of Servis products end with digit ‘9’ Servis expects to encourage its customers to donate the one Rupee change they receive from purchase of shoes to this program.

  • Servis promises to match the customer donations such made. Hence, every one Rupee coin that is dropped in the donation box is backed by a coin from Servis. This shows that Servis stands by its customers in a noble cause of bringing happiness in its community. For the first year of the program, Servis will match donations up to PKR 5m.

  • The money such collected will be donated to reputable organizations, institutions, and causes. Servis has signed up Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center as the primary recipients of its donations for the first one year of the program. As a primary recipient, SKMCH&RC will receive 70% of the total donation money after deduction of collection costs. Remaining 30% will be distributed to other (secondary) recipients.

  • Servis CSR Team also actively liaises with recipients and partners in this program in terms of exposing its management and employees to devote time and energies in helping these partners meet their objectives. These can range from attending a cancer awareness session to going out and teaching a child. Employees at our stores get a feel of helping the community each day by educating their customers to contribute and hence feeling good about a job and deed well done.

CSR is an exciting new avenue for Servis and as a national brand we are committed to making a difference for the people in our community.
